on taking pictures along the shore

Posted by Susana Roque on Sunday, April 2, 2017

I don't know how the pictures will turn out after each photo shoot at the beach.   I usually find surprises I never thought I would find. What you think you are looking at from afar is something else once you focus in on it with more time - shadows, puddles, bark, light-  as well as people and animals walking by. I am finding it challenging to not repeat what I thought has been working for me so far so as to not make the story redundant...I hope these pictures will be able to help me to think about how the way things come and go along the edge of the sea and  teach us something about memory, loss and death. ...but I admit...It seems like everything is always the same at first when I go there. If it rains just a bit  again maybe I will find a nice puddle. The water in them evaporates so quickly.  I am going in with an extra battery now.

I am going to seperate the writing  of the words from the pictures as well. I have been writing the words with the pictures together to let the materiality of the work speak ...maybe this seperation will make me go and look for specific things at the sea to put in it...
